Watches and Scotches

Not withstanding gadget fads, a well-made watch is just… cool. Not only does it feel great to put one on your wrist every morning, but when chosen well, watches can be a timeless (pun not intended) fashion statement. One of my favorite things of all time was the Hamilton watch that belonged to my father and was given to me by my mother many years after his passing. Whenever I glanced down, at the time, it made me think of him. An investment in a good timepiece is an investment in time itself, as you can pass it on through generations. I’ve already given one of my favorites to my daughter and it makes me so very happy every time I see her wearing it.

What goes perfectly with a tasteful watch? A tasty scotch, of course. The parable is obvious; a great watch tells you the time, and a great scotch takes some time. When you want to take a breath and contemplate the meaning of life, there is nothing quite like a good pour of a smoky, smooth scotch. Plus, as you tip it to your lips, everyone in the room gets a look at your perfect taste in timepieces, too.

You know, that sounds really delicious. I think I’ll take my own advice and head out for a drink. This one’s for you, dad.

GLENGOYNE 10 AND HIGHLAND PARK 12

A pair! The Glengoyne is young and a bit aggressive, but not immature. Light on the palate, finishing with a slight impression of raisin and straw. The Highland Park is a great, all arounder as a single malt. Very silky on the palate with bright impressions of apple and charcoal.
