The holidays haven’t even begun and yet I find myself already going into full overindulgence mode: an extra pat of butter to this, a cup of cream to that. I find myself looking at everyday dishes and thinking, “that could use some cheese.” The temperatures have barely dropped and I’m already storing up for winter.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the wonderful world of cold weather comfort foods (stews, pastas, creamy soups, etc.) but these rich dishes have a time and a place and every day isn’t it. Since I’m not preparing to hibernate anytime soon, I figured that it was time to bring something a little lighter into my life.
As I was wandering around Central Market the other day, something amazing happened: I found myself drawn to the smell of fresh fruit. My body was finally ready for something other than butter-soaked potatoes.
As I walked up to Lancaster Juice Company, I was pleased to find myself craving everything I read on the menu. I chose a smoothie aptly named “Good Karma,” a combination of mango, pineapple, and strawberries mixed with orange juice and local grass-fed yogurt.
Luckily, the delicious creamy drink felt just as indulgent as all of the other dishes that I had been consuming lately. The bright citrus mixed with the thick yogurt reminded me of a childhood favorite, the creamsicle.
Even though I had to wear gloves when holding the icy cool drink on a chilly November day, I see many more smoothies in my future. Oh, and some pot pies too.
