So, my wife sent me a text from the liquor store that said – “what goes good with bourbon?” I was able to text back a single word answer – “ice.”
This is not to say that all brown liquors should be consumed straight, and in fact, a well-crafted Manhattan may be proof of potential perfection in the universe. But sometimes, you just want ice and at those times, you want good ice.
Enter “the ball.” One perfect, rounded sphere of cold. No edges means the melt is slower and will not dilute your drink too rapidly (trust me, this is science people). You can buy silicone molds to freeze four ice spheres at a time.
It is a simple recipe – freeze the ice, drop one sphere in a heavy cocktail glass and add good bourbon. You’re welcome.
