Bakery at the Cupboard, the offshoot of Lititz Family Cupboard, has been open since 2008. Manager and Pastry Chef Samantha Fisher (graduate of the Culinary Institute of America) explained that since opening, the bakery has made a presence in the community as business has increased. Bakery at the Cupboard has now reached a solitary identity by not only making desserts for the restaurant but also offering several to-go items in their display cases and a wholesale line as well.
One of their specialties, which has been present from the beginning, is their chocolate cake with peanut butter icing. “It’s what we’re known for,” says Samantha. “Everyone loves our cookies, too. They’re made with butter, local ingredients, and Wilbur chocolate.” Wilbur chocolate isn’t the only locally sourced ingredient the bakery uses; they also use local produce and milk from Pine View Dairy.
The bakery changes its features from month to month. In April, they will offer a buttery coconut macaroon pound cake, made with real butter, coconut, and coconut milk, finished off with a warm chocolate ganache and whipped cream. In mid-May, they will be offering their infamous fresh strawberry pie for Mother’s Day.
The bakery loves making custom cakes for small special occasions, such as bridal showers and birthday parties. Not only is the bakery a retail store, but they have a wholesale line, too. Tomato Pie Café is just one of the local cafes that happily offers delicious treats from Bakery at the Cupboard.
